LEARNING MULTIPLICATION TABLE MADE EASY, EXAMPLES, EXERCISES
Teaching or
Learning Multiplication Table through Fun Games
is possible.
For details, see near
the bottom of this page.
Please study
Multiplication as repeated addition,
if you have not already done so.
There, we introduced multiplication as
repeated addition and solved a number
of examples including word problems.
Need of Learning Multiplication Table
So far we have made use of
our knowledge of
Addition
in solving problems in which
there is repeated addition.
As the number of times addition is
repeated, increases, the computing
of it using the knowledge of
addition only, becomes tedious.
For example, see the problem 2
of exercise 1A of
Multiplication as repeated addition
in which 5 is added 8 times.
Using finger counting method,
5 + 5 is found to be 10. Then
again 5 is added to 10 to get 15
and we have to repeat
the process till we add 5,
8 times to arrive at 40.
We have already simplified
the writing of
5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5
as 8 x 5.
How good it will be, if we can
directly find the value of 8 x 5,
instead of adding it 8 times.
That is what we learn here.
Learning Multiplication Table
First, we learn the values of
a single digit multiplied by
a single digit. These values,
we directly remeber and it is a
basic step in the process of
learning multiplication.
This basic step is covered in
Multiplication Tables.
In this Multiplication Tables
page, we provide multiplication table
or "times table", which is a grid
where rows and columns are headed by
the numbers to multiply, and the entry
in each cell is the product of the
column and row headings.
For example, 6 × 7 = 42
by looking up where 6 and 7 intersect.
We also provide several TIPS
to facilitate remebering them.
We also provided another page to
help to remember the Multiplication
Table up to 9 x 9 using a simple
principle from Vedic mathematics.
For that page go to

Multiplication Tables through Video Game.
First go to one or both of those pages,
follow the tips, learn the tables
or learn the tables through the video
game mentioned above,
and then come back here.
Based on the multiplication tables,
do the following exercises.
Exercise 1A : Learning Multiplication Table
Take the problems 1, 2, 3, 6,
7 and 8 of Exercise 1 A of
Multiplication as repeated addition
and write the values directly
(without adding) using the
knowledge of Multiplication Tables.
Exercise 1B : Word problems using Multiplication Tables
Take the problems 1 to 8
of Exercise 1B of
Multiplication as repeated addition
and write the values directly
(without adding) using the knowledge
of Multiplication Tables.
