Solving Word problems

We have to carefully read the given
word problem. Understand what is given
and what is asked.

In Subtraction Word problems,
write the given verbal statements
one below the other in words with
the numerical values given for them.

Write the word statement for the
value to be found and equate it to
the difference of the values
given as per the given word problem.

The male population of a town is
7899 less than its female population
which is 100120. Find the total
population of the town in figures
and in words.

Solution :
The process of finding the difference
of 100120 and 7899 is shown in the

1. Write the largest and the
   smallest numbers formed by the
   digits 9, 1, 6, 3 and find
   their difference.
2. An exporter exported 301201
   items last year. This year he
   exported 122312 less than last year.
   Find the total number of items
   exported in these two years.
3. There were 50231 tress in a
   grove. 2456 tress fell in cyclone.
   How many trees remain.
4. 80213 students paid fee for
   an examination. 1789 students did
   n't appear for the examination.
   10987 students failed in the examination.
   The rest have passed.
   Find the number of students that
   have passed the examination.
5. 134251 kgs of tea was loaded on
   a ship out of which 57899 kgs was
   loaded on the first day. The rest was
   loaded on the second day.
   How much tea was loaded on the second day ?
